This is an opportunity for you to join content expert Mary D. Cooper, RDH, MS and other fellow educators to have the opportunity to discuss the development and application of case-based methodology The participant will acquire the basic philosophy involved with assessing case learning outcomes. Because the Dental Hygiene National Board Examination applies the case-based concept in testing format, participants will learn how to write ‘life-like’ cases and how to obtain the necessary information to develop these cases, including patient medical/dental histories, radiographs, dental chart–with periodontal information, and clinical photographs. By studying and completing cases, your students will practice and develop critical thinking skills through the use of inquiry teaching methods.

Educators Platform Masterminds are dynamic two-hour virtual sessions building on each other’s challenges, ideas and successes in the presence of a content expert. Mastermind sessions are thoughtfully facilitated to create an environment for like-minded colleagues to share and learn from one another with the goal of collective professional growth and development. Sessions are uniquely tailored to the needs of participants. Those attending will have the opportunity to create strong connections with other participants to last a whole career.

More about our content expert: Ms. Cooper is Professor Emeritus at Indiana University Fort Wayne (IUFW), Division of Allied Dental Education, where she taught in the dental hygiene program and served as Associate Dean. As a tenured Professor, her most recent responsibilities included teaching Nutrition, Oral Anatomy/Histology, Preclinical, and a Case-based course. Mary has published several articles, a text book and book chapters on topics applicable to practicing dental hygienists. In addition, she served on the Editorial Advisory Board for Access. Mary was honored with the Friends of the University Outstanding Teaching Award and, in 2013, received the Facet Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET) Award—an Indiana University statewide teaching recognition. She was awarded the Special Service Award from the Indiana Dental Association in 2021.

Attendees of Educators Platform Mastermind sessions will earn 2 CEU in Educational Methods.
