This course provides dental hygiene clinical educators with a comprehensive overview of CODA Dental Hygiene Standards 4, 5, and 6, with emphasis on facilities, health and safety provisions, and quality assurance practices in the clinical setting. Participants will examine how these standards guide clinical evaluation processes, resource utilization, infection control, and risk management.

Clinical educators will gain a clear understanding of their role in supporting continuous program improvement, maintaining accreditation compliance, and ensuring safe, effective, and ethical clinical learning environments.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the purpose and scope of CODA Dental Hygiene Standards 4, 5, and 6 and their role in ensuring program effectiveness, resource adequacy, and patient safety.
  2. Recognize clinical faculty responsibilities related to patient care facilities and safety including infection control, radiography, and emergency preparedness.
  3. Demonstrate understanding of and documentation expectations related to quality assurance and patient safety that support accreditation and risk management.
  4. Identify common areas of noncompliance associated with Standards 4, 5, and 6 and implement strategies to prevent accreditation deficiencies in the clinical setting.

Educators Platform Masterminds are dynamic two-hour virtual sessions building on each other’s challenges, ideas and successes in the presence of a content expert. Mastermind sessions are thoughtfully facilitated to create an environment for like-minded colleagues to share and learn from one another with the goal of collective professional growth and development. Sessions are uniquely tailored to the needs of participants. More about our content expert: Dr. Carr is an Associate Professor Emeritus and former chair of the Division of Dental Hygiene at The Ohio State University, College of Dentistry. She has a wealth of knowledge and expertise on CODA Accreditation having served numerous years as a CODA Site Visitor as well as a member of the CODA Dental Hygiene Review Committee. Dr. Carr also serves as an Accreditation Preparation Consultant on the Educators Platform Team.
