Meet Your Conference Facilitators

Rebecca L. Stolberg, RDH, MSDH


Rebecca Stolberg received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene from Eastern Washington University; and a Master of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. She has been in dental education for over 27 years. Prior to coming to ADEA Rebecca served many roles in academia including professor, program director, department chair, assistant dean, and associate dean. Rebecca became ADEA Senior Director of Allied Dental Education and Faculty Development July 2018, and was promoted to Vice President, Allied Dental Education and Faculty Development Dec. 2021. In this role she serves as staff liaison to the Council of Allied Dental Program Directors, manages three professional development programs, mentors new allied dental program directors, maintains relationships with external organizations and supervises two other staff. Her past and current work with ADEA, ADHA and Pew Foundation have earned her the reputation as a national consultant on dental hygiene curriculum as well as in leadership and mentoring.

Julie Sutton, RDH, MS


Professor Sutton is an Associate Professor at the UMKC School of Dentistry in the Division of Dental Hygiene.  She has more than ten years of teaching experience, enjoys didactic and clinical teaching, and the application of learning through engagement. She has completed courses through the Association for Colleges and University Educators for effective instruction and inclusive teaching, and she found tremendous impact in the sessions she attended through the Faculty Scholars Program at UMKC. This led to her identification and reliance on her teaching philosophy in academia. Each learning opportunity can reflect philosophy and informs the learning culture.  These can be the lasting impressions that result in teaching excellence. Professor Sutton is honored with three Distinguished Teaching Awards, and multiple lecturer of the year awards, and she currently serves as the Faculty Fellow for Engaged Teaching and Learning to UMKC’s Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence. Her research interests include the scholarship of engagement in teaching and learning, access to care, social justice and humility in education- specifically the biologic sciences, epidemiology, and nicotine.

Cynthia C. Gadbury-Amyot, MSDH, EdD 


Dr. Amyot, Ed.D. has served in a variety of positions during her 30+ years of teaching at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), School of Dentistry. Administrative positions have included Associate Dean of Instructional Technology and Faculty Development, Interim Vice Provost of Online Education, Director of the Division of Dental Hygiene, and Director of Graduate and Degree Completion Studies. Dr. Amyot currently serves as an Adjunct Faculty and Professor Emeriti. She has taught at all levels of the curriculum; doctoral, predoctoral, graduate and undergraduate. Dr. Amyot has received numerous distinguished teaching awards from the School of Dentistry and is a recipient of the university wide Elmer Pierson Outstanding Teaching Award. In 2020, she was the recipient of the American Dental Education Association ADEA/GIES Award for Innovation – Dental Educator. Her research interests include portfolio assessment of student competency, community-based service-learning, access to care and distance and online education. Her service to the university and profession has been extensive. She recently had the distinction of being a contributing author for the National Institutes of Health Oral Health in America: Advances and Challenges 2021 report.

Donna Wicker RDH, MEd, EdD


Donna Wicker has been in dental hygiene education for 12 years.  She practiced clinical dental hygiene for 20 years prior to beginning her career in education. She enjoys learning new things and took advantage of the options available in the dental field.  She began her clinical career in a periodontal practice and discovered a passion for working with periodontally involved patients.  A few years later she discovered her love of education when presented with an opportunity to work as a dental public health educator, designing and implementing dental public health programs and working in a community-based clinic. She then transitioned to a traditional family and cosmetic practice to round out her clinical career.  Loving both the practice of dental hygiene and education, Dr. Wicker returned to college to study higher education, specializing in student learning and development, with an interest in clinical education and effective transition to practice. During her time as an educator, she has taught Periodontology, Preventive Dental Health, Pharmacology, Dental Emergencies, Nutrition, Oral Pathology, Dental Hygiene Practice, Ethics and Practice Management, and Clinic.  Currently, she teaches Periodontology and is the coordinator for the second-year clinic.

Lorie Holt, RDH, MS, PhD


Lorie Holt is an Associate Professor, UMKC CAFÉ Lead, and Director of the RDH to BSDH degree program, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry. Dr. Holt earned a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in dental hygiene and most recently a PhD in Curriculum & Instruction with a focus on culturally responsive pedagogy and faculty/professional development at UMKC. She has served as the Director of the RDH to BSDH degree program in the Division of Dental Hygiene since 2007 and is currently serving as Interim Director for the DHE graduate program. Lorie has served as the UMKC Campus Director for the University of Missouri Teaching Scholars Program, a Provost Fellow, and as UMKC campus facilitator for the ACUE Online Course Certification. She has published in several peer-reviewed journals. Her research interests include culturally responsive pedagogy, educational pedagogy, faculty development and online learning. Dr. Holt has received numerous distinguished teaching awards and has been recognized by Johnson County Community College as Alumnus of the Year. She has much service experience both within the UMKC School of Dentistry as well as within the University itself. Dr. Holt has served her profession as Councilor for the ADEA Section on Dental Hygiene Education, educational consultant for the Commission on Dental Accreditation, as well as serving various offices within the state dental hygiene association. 

Sheree Duff, RDH, MSA


Sheree Duff received her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree from the University of Michigan (U-M) followed by a Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration from Central Michigan University. She has held various roles over the last 45 years, including dental hygiene faculty member, program director/department chair, and dean of dental programs in the private college, community college, and university environment. Her strong clinical interest is in the care of the advanced periodontal patient. Her academic interests include curriculum design, integrating theory courses with clinical application for successful student recruitment, retention and assessment leading to outstanding board scores and high graduation pass rates. Additionally, Sheree has held other leadership roles, serving as the chair of the U-M Board of Governors and member of the U-M Campaign Committee. She has been active in several local chapters of the National Dental Hygiene Honor Society, serving as component President for 18 years. She served for two terms as the President of the Michigan Dental Hygiene Educators' Association. She recently completed her seven year appointment as a Consultant to the Joint Commission on Dental Accreditation. Currently,  she is a  member of several ADA National Dental Examinations, Test Construction Committees. Working with dental hygiene students is her passion and she continues her teachings at the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry, as a full-time faculty member.

Kimberly Krust Bray, PhD, RDH


Kimberly Bray is a Professor in the Division of Dental Hygiene at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. Dr. Bray currently teaches in three degree programs including two degrees with distance learning options. Her doctorate is in Applied Cognitive and Brain Sciences. Dr. Bray has presented numerous Continuing Education Programs nationally and abroad including the International Federation of Dental Hygienists, European American Dental Hygiene Association (EARDH), American Dental Education Associations Annual Sessions, the American Dental Hygiene Association Annual Session, the International Association for Dental Research, American Association for Dental Research and the International Symposia for Dental Hygiene. She is Past-President of ADEA Dental Hygiene Education Section, Sigma Phi Alpha National Dental Hygiene Honor Society, and the UMKC Dental Hygienists' Alumni Association, and formerly served on the American Dental Hygienists’ Association Oral Institute for Research Grant Review Committee. She received the 2002 UMKC Dental Hygiene Alumni Achievement Award. Current research interests include Motivational Interviewing, Autonomous Regulation, health behavior change, product efficacy and periodontics.

Mary Danusis Cooper, RDH, MSEd


Mary Cooper is Professor Emeritus at Indiana University Fort Wayne (IUFW), Division of Allied Dental Education, where she taught in the dental hygiene program for 33 years full time and served as Associate Dean before retiring in 2020. As a tenured Professor, her responsibilities included teaching Nutrition, Oral Anatomy/Histology, Preclinical, and a Case-based course. Ms. Cooper has published several articles on topics applicable to practicing dental hygienists. She has also written a textbook, nutrition CD-ROM, book chapters and edited textbooks. Ms. Cooper was honored with the Friends of the University Outstanding Teaching Award at the University and received the Facet Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET) Award—an Indiana University statewide teaching recognition. In 2021, Mary was awarded the Special Service Award from the Indiana Dental Association.

Sheila Vandenbush, PhD, CDA, RDA, RDH


Sheila Vandenbush holds a Ph.D. in Education, Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University, serves on the CODA Dental Hygiene Review Committee, serves on 3 NBHDE test writing committees, and on the Joint Commission Dental Hygiene Licensure Objective Structured Clinical Examination (DHLOSC) examination committee. Dr. Vandenbush is immediate past Academic Chair for Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, and Surgical Technology at Dallas College, has extensive experience in program development and evaluation, and has expertise in teaching dental materials, dental radiology, and clinical dental hygiene.
