A bit more information

This is an opportunity for you to join periodontist and content expert David Reeves, DMD and other fellow educators to discuss aspects of teaching periodontology. The intended audience for this session is any instructor teaching in the clinic who wishes to be refreshed on latest practices of perio. We will have an open discussion during this Mastermind and have the opportunity to 'pick a periodontists' brain' about the following topics:

1. Understand all the attributes and subtleties of 2017 Stage and Grading Classification System.
2. Discuss the complications teaching CAL in a clinical setting to students, and  a way to make it easier to teach students CAL while not over diagnosing disease.
3. Describe the endpoint for periodontal therapy.
4. Estimate commonality of gingivitis and periodontitis
5. List some interrelationships between untreated periodontitis and systemic disease.
6. Discuss ways to help students understand and learn ways to establish a diagnostic periodontal diagnosis.
7. Discuss updates on some of the chemotherapeutic medications used in periodontics.
8. Rationalize when antibiotics are indicated and when they are not.
9. Describe a flowchart that helps guide clinicians in the treatment process.

Educators Platform Masterminds are dynamic two-hour virtual sessions building on each other’s challenges, ideas and successes in the presence of a content expert. Mastermind sessions are thoughtfully facilitated to create an environment for like-minded colleagues to share and learn from one another with the goal of collective professional growth and development. Sessions are uniquely tailored to the needs of participants. Those attending will have the opportunity to create strong connections with other participants to last a whole career.

More about our content expert: David Reeves obtained his DMD from Southern Illinois University/School of Dental Medicine in 1985.  Dr. Reeves entered active-duty Army service as a resident in the AEGD/1 program at Ft. Riley, KS.  He practiced as a general dentist for 9 years before deciding to enter periodontal residency in 1994.  Dr. Reeves received his Certificate in Periodontics from the U.S. Army Periodontic Residency at Ft. Gordon, GA and his M.S. in Oral Biology from the Medical College of Georgia in 1997.  COL Reeves completed his board certification with the American Board of Periodontology in 1998. COL Reeves served as the periodontal mentor for the AEGD/2-year program and Chief of Periodontics at Ft. Hood, TX from 2001-2006.  Dr. Reeves owned a private practice for 8 years before entering academia on a more full-time basis in 2015.  He has taught periodontics, pharmacology, oral pathology, emergency management, nitrous oxide sedation, laser therapy, local anesthesia (dental hygiene care 1), Medically Compromised Patient Care (dental hygiene care 2) and clinic 1, 2, and 3 at Austin Community College (ACC) in the Dental Hygiene Department.  He began teaching at ACC in 2007.  Dr. Reeves is also currently the periodontal mentor for the AEGD/1 program at the Central Texas Veteran’s Health Care System serving there since 2015.  Dr. Reeves has lectured all over the world within the Army education system providing continuing education for general dentists and periodontists alike.  

Attendees of Educators Platform Mastermind sessions will earn 2 CEU in Educational Methods.
