A bit more information
With almost a million implants being placed annually in the US, it is highly likely dental hygiene students and licensed practitioners will encounter a patient with an implant. Research shows that peri-implant mucositis is significantly underdiagnosed by practitioners. Additionally, the evidence shows that consistent maintenance results in a significantly lower incidence of peri-implantitis, making it critical for dental hygiene students to assess implants, and provide implant maintenance. This Mastermind course lead by content expert Danielle Rulli, RDH, MS, DHSc, will explore the evidence and apply it to critical teaching aspects of dental implants, supportive implant care, and protocols that will prepare students for today's dental hygiene practice. Â
Objectives
- Discuss the anatomy and physiology of peri-implant tissuesÂ
- Compare peri-implant and periodontal tissues, health, and diseaseÂ
- Examine implant care protocols
