CAL is a foundational concept in periodontal assessment and is critical in diagnosing and monitoring periodontal disease, yet many students struggle to grasp its clinical significance and correct measurement. This session offers an opportunity to explore effective teaching strategies, share classroom and clinic experiences, and discuss innovative approaches to help students better understand and apply CAL in clinical practice. Whether you're a new or seasoned educator, your insights and questions are welcome. Bring your tips, tools, and challenges for a collaborative exchange of ideas.

More about our content expert: Leah MacPherson holds an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of New England, an Advanced Dental Hygiene Certificate from the Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists, and a Master’s Degree from Northeastern University. She currently serves as a Professor at Middlesex Community College, where she teaches Periodontology, Pre-clinic, Concepts in Dental Hygiene I, Local Anesthesia, and Clinic. She has also worked as a clinical examiner conducting periodontal research at the Forsyth Institute and brings extensive clinical experience in both surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy. Her excellence in teaching has been recognized with the National Teaching and Leadership Excellence Award and the Course of Distinction Award for her innovative hybrid Periodontology course.
