This program will teach participants how to implement Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) best practices into dental hygiene curricula. The session will address the unique challenges of implementing IPC in academic settings. Current resources available from the CDC and OSAP will be highlighted that can be utilized in teaching dental hygiene students. This session will also provide strategies to help meet CODA Accreditation Standards related to health and safety.
Course Objectives:
- Identify the unique challenges of teaching IPC in academic settings
- Identify available resources to aid in teaching IPC in a dental academic curriculum
- Implement strategies to improve and maintain IPC compliance in academic settings
- Develop strategies to meet CODA Accreditation Standards for health and safety

More about our content expert: Kandis Garland is an educator, author, and speaker. Her career spans 26 years as a dental hygienist and 21 years as a dental hygiene educator in various institutions where she served as Clinic Coordinator and Infection Control Coordinator. Her research, which she presents nationally, focuses on infection control. Garland is an active member of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention and Dimensions of Dental Hygiene’s Peer Review Panel. Kandis writes the Ask the Expert column for Dimensions of Dental Hygiene and contributes regularly. She is a member of the Crosstex Luminary Council, provides infection control consulting services, and serves as an educational consultant for Tuttnauer. Kandis is currently the Dental Hygiene Program Manager at the College of Eastern Idaho.
