This is an opportunity for you to join content expert Sandra D'Amato-Palumbo, EdD, MPS, BS, RDH, and other fellow educators to discuss strategies and best practices for teaching General and Oral Pathology for the Dental Hygienist. The fundamental course design under discussion will include the development of the course, including lecture content, assessments, and high-touch student engagement activities for a captivating classroom. Interactive learning content to increase student engagement in the classroom will be demonstrated using the innovative H5P technology and its integration into a Learning Management System. Attendees of this session will have the opportunity to openly discuss and share teaching strategies about the various types of oral diseases and pathology of the head and neck and immunology-associated systemic pathology.

Objectives:

  • Assess components for course design.
  • Design lectures by content building.
  • Apply effective teaching strategies to enhance students' engagement and learning.
  • Discuss formative and summative course assessments.
  • Incorporate interactive technology into the students’ learning spaces.

More about our content expert: Sandra D'Amato-Palumbo is a tenured professor at the University of New Haven (UNH) and has been a faculty member at UNH since 1997, teaching and leading the undergraduate dental hygiene program. Dr. Palumbo enjoys teaching General and Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine, Internships, study abroad in Italy, and clinical dental hygiene courses. Dr. Palumbo is involved in professional organizations, serving on various state and national committees and organizations. She is a published author in high-tier dental journals and dental hygiene textbooks and a former clinical research scholar at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine.
