This is an opportunity for you to join content expert Lisa Rowley, RDH, MS and other fellow educators to discuss strategies for teaching Law and Ethics. Discussion will include the available textbooks for this course, activities to engage students with the content (not just case studies), and innovative ways to adapt this content to online teaching.

Objectives

  • Identify resources that can be used to determine what dental hygiene students need to know about law & ethics.
  • Describe how professionalism & “professional practice” may be used to make law & ethics more meaningful for dental hygiene students.
  • Discuss teaching strategies, in-class activities and outside-class assignments that may be effective for teaching law & ethics.

Educators Platform Masterminds are dynamic two-hour virtual sessions building on each other’s challenges, ideas and successes in the presence of a content expert. Mastermind sessions are thoughtfully facilitated to create an environment for like-minded colleagues to share and learn from one another with the goal of collective professional growth and development. Sessions are uniquely tailored to the needs of participants. Those attending will have the opportunity to create strong connections with other participants to last a whole career.

More about our content expert: Lisa J. Rowley, RDH, MS has more than 35 years of experience in dental hygiene and dental assisting education. She has worked in both teaching and administration at community college and university settings. Lisa developed the BS degree dental hygiene program at Pacific University, a program designed to prepare dental hygienists for direct access practice. Lisa served as director for this program until 2018 when she moved into a full-time faculty position. Lisa also designed a dental therapy education program for working dental hygienists that is currently being offered at Pacific as part of a dental workforce pilot project. In addition to her work with Pacific, Lisa is Advocacy Director for the Oregon Dental Hygienists’ Association, and she represents the ODHA on the Dental Hygiene Committee for the Oregon Board of Dentistry.
