Meet Your Conference Facilitators

Cynthia C. Gadbury-Amyot, MSDH, EdD


Cindy Amyot has served in a variety of positions during her 30+ years of teaching at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), School of Dentistry. Administrative positions include Associate Dean of Instructional Technology and Faculty Development, Director of the Division of Dental Hygiene, Director of Graduate and Degree Completion Studies, and Junior Clinic Coordinator. She has taught at all levels of the curriculum: doctoral, predoctoral, graduate and undergraduate. Dr. Amyot led the initiative to put the Graduate and Degree Completion programs online in the early 2000s. She has been actively engaged in portfolio assessment of competency for over twenty years. Dr. Amyot has received numerous distinguished teaching awards from the School of Dentistry and is a recipient of the university wide Elmer Pierson Outstanding Teaching Award. In 2020, she was the recipient of the ADEA/GIES Award for Innovation – Dental Educator. Her research interests include portfolio assessment of student competency, educational methodology research, and access to care.

Chris Haddlesey, MBA


Chris graduated from the University of Michigan in 2015 with a degree in English Education. For four semesters, he taught grammar and style techniques to postgraduate students from the Michigan School of Dentistry’s Division of Dental Hygiene. Professors noticed their students’ progress, and Chris was invited to present his approach at a series of faculty workshops. This eventually led to an invitation in 2017 to design Writing for Oral Health Sciences, a course required as part of the Masters of Science in Dental Hygiene (MSDH) curriculum, and Chris has co-taught the course each year since. He joined the MSDH program's AI committee in 2023, as he has a keen interest in how artificial intelligence advancements may impact not only his course but also how the skill of writing is taught in general. Chris has worked as a pharmaceutical and corporate finance editor since 2016 and completed an MBA in 2024.

Ashley J. Hobbs MS, BSDH, RDH, ECP II


Ashley has been teaching continuously at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry since 2012 in the Division of Dental Hygiene. Professor Hobbs provides course directorship in the dental hygiene curriculum through Local Anesthesia and Pain Control, Dental Biomaterials and Introduction to the Preventive Practice of Dental Hygiene courses. She acts as the Junior Clinic Coordinator and currently serves as the Secretary for the ADEA Dental Hygiene Clinic Coordinators Special Interest Group.

A passion of Ashley’s is giving back to the community. She has attended over 50 dental missions reaching a national and international population. In her free time, she has built two non-for-profit programs to provide preventive services to underserved populations, Elder Smiles and The Gladstone Sealant Outreach Program. Ashley was the recent recipient of the UMKC Staff of the Year Award in 2024 as well as the UMKC Dental Hygiene Alumni Association Outstanding Service Award in 2024.

Her research interests include faculty calibration, clinical instruction, and teaching paradigms. She presented on the development of school-based sealant programs at a continuing education course at her professional association at the state level, spoken nationally at the American Dental Education Association 2022 conference on innovative teaching paradigms, and at the American Dental Hygienist’s Association 2022 conference on her qualitative research on student perceptions of a school-based sealant program.
