This presentation provides a focused overview of Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) Dental Hygiene Standard 1 emphasizing how program goals set the foundation for ongoing program assessment and commission compliance.

Special attention is given to distance education and off-campus instructional sites, including CODA definitions, oversight expectations, and documentation requirements.

The presentation will also review CODA program change reporting, highlighting when notifications or formal submissions are required, common compliance pitfalls, and best practices for maintaining accreditation during program modifications.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the purpose and scope of CODA Dental Hygiene Standard 1 and its role in establishing institutional effectiveness, program governance, and accreditation compliance.
2. Differentiate between main campus programs, distance education sites, and off-campus instructional locations according to CODA definitions and oversight requirements.
3. Recognize situations that require CODA notification or submission of a program change report, including changes related to distance education, enrollment, curriculum delivery, and instructional sites.
4. Describe the program change submission process, including timelines, required documentation, and common areas of noncompliance cited during site visits.

More about our content expert: Dr. Carr is an Associate Professor Emeritus and former chair of the Division of Dental Hygiene at The Ohio State University, College of Dentistry. She has a wealth of knowledge and expertise on CODA Accreditation having served numerous years as a CODA Site Visitor as well as a member of the CODA Dental Hygiene Review Committee. Dr. Carr also serves as an Accreditation Preparation Consultant on the Educators Platform Team.
