Clinic and Lab Coordinators!! Our roles are essential to the quality of our programs, and to the experiences of our faculty and students. It is imperative that we gather together to stay updated and collaborated to be our best in our roles. RISE 2024 is just for you and we are so excited about gathering together in April! During an exclusive live, virtual, three-session conference, April 11th, 18th and 25th we will collectively take a journey discussing critical, advanced and innovative aspects of our roles as clinic coordinators.  

Day 1: In our first session, we'll dive deep into the clinic coordinator's role and its vital connection to faculty. From onboarding newer faculty members to ensuring calibration across our instructors, we'll address common issues surrounding faculty expectations and program goals, providing actionable solutions to enhance our effectiveness as a clinic or lab coordinator. We will learn also how to foster and develop the next generation of clinic instructors.

Day 2: Next up, we'll explore the essential relationship between clinic coordinators and program success. Learn from CODA experts about implementing streamlined processes to collect accreditation essentials, ensuring smooth site visits and program compliance. We will also be apprised of important clinical board exam updates.

Day 3: Lastly, in our third session, we'll focus on fostering meaningful connections between clinic coordinators and students. Discover strategies to nurture successful student experiences, keep them on track with program requirements, and provide opportunities for vital self-reflection and mentoring – all essential components for meeting CODA standards.

Meet Your Conference Facilitators

Christine Nathe, RDH, MS


Christine Nathe, RDH, MS is currently Professor and Director at the University of New Mexico, Division of Dental Hygiene. She is also Vice Chair of the Department of Dental Medicine at UNM. She has published numerous articles, chapters and books in dental hygiene including Dental Public Heath & Research: Contemporary Practice for the Dental Hygienist. She venues and speaks worldwide on dental public health issues including 22 years of her National Conference for Dental Public Health Educators. She is an editorial reviewer of many dental hygiene periodicals and has served as Chair of the American Dental Hygienists' Association Council on Public Health. Professor Nathe has received the Johnson & Johnson/ADHA Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene, the Excellence in Teaching Award from the UNM School of Medicine, the Distinguished Alumni Award from Old Dominion University, School of Dental Hygiene in Norfolk, Virginia, Outstanding Alumni Award from Rhodes State College in Lima, Ohio, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Ohio Association of Community Colleges and the Distinguished Alumni Award in Dental Hygiene from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and most recently the Old Dominion University 40th Anniversary Outstanding Educator's Award.

Darlene Jones, RDH, BS, MPA


Darlene Jones currently serves as Interim Director of the Dental Hygiene Program at the University of Michigan. After graduating with her Associate's degree from Lakeland Community College the next 40+ years, she worked as a clinical dental hygienist, practicing in a variety of settings in Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin, and Michigan.  She earned my Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences from Midwestern State University, Texas, followed by a Master of Public Administration from Eastern Michigan University in 2002. For 10 years, she taught part-time at Wayne County Community College and at the University of Michigan, both in the clinic and classroom. In 2014, Ms. Jones started as a full-time faculty member at the University of Michigan. She is a member and current president of Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Honor Society, Nu-Chapter. For the past seven years, she have supervised a PA 161: Public Dental Prevention Program in Washtenaw County, working with dental hygiene students from the University of Michigan. Darlene enjoys practicing primarily in community settings and her passion and interest is expanding the use of dental hygiene services for the under served in the community as well as mentoring students during their community-based research projects. She also provide care for patients in our Integrated Special Needs Clinic and lead Educators Platform Mastermind on Special Needs. 

Michele Carr, RDH, MA, EdD


Michele Carr is faculty Emeritus and former Chair, Division of Dental Hygiene at The Ohio State University, College of Dentistry. She also served as the Director of Continuing Education at the College of Dentistry for three years while she was chair of her division. Along with her research interests in clinical practice and cultural diversity, Dr. Carr has dedicated much of her career to serving numerous years as both a CODA consultant and a CODA Dental Hygiene Review Committee member. Dr. Carr has been recognized nationally and locally serving on numerous professional committees such as the ADEA Council of Allied Dental Program Directors, ADEA Continuing Education Advisory Committee, ADHA Council on Policy and Bylaws, and Ohio Dental Hygienists’ Association Government Relations Committee. She has published over 20 articles in a variety of dental journals and serves as an Ask-the-Expert columnist for the journal Dimensions of Dental Hygiene. Michele is a member of the Ohio State Dental Board and serves as an examiner for CDCA-WREB-CITA. Additionally, Michele is an accreditation consultant for Educators Platform.

Heather Anderson, RDH, MSDH


Heather Anderson is full time faculty at her alma mater Eastern Washington University where she teaches Preclinic, Disease Prevention, and Restorative courses. Heather has over 20 years of clinical experience working across Washington state in many different capacities, including working currently one day a week in private practice. She served on two ADEA workgroups developing competencies for both dental hygiene graduate and entry-level allied dental profession educational pursuits. Heather actively participates in her local ADHA component and loves sharing with others the small successes in her profession.

Sarah Jackson, RDH, MSDH


Sarah has been actively involved in the dental field since she was in high school and started her career as a dental assistant. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Washington University (EWU) and her Master of Science degree in Dental Hygiene Education from Idaho State University. Sarah joined the full-time faculty at Eastern Washington University in 2007. She served as a clinic lead for 12 years and teaches various courses in the undergraduate curriculum including Leadership, Disease Prevention, Advocacy and Ethics, Risk and Practice Management, Capstone, and Clinical Teaching Strategies. She is currently the Program Director for the online EWU BSHS/BSDH Degree completion program.  In addition, she teaches in the EWU Master’s Program (MSDH) and has facilitated classes for dental students from the University of Washington (RIDE program). She is also currently the SADHA advisor for EWU and is very active in The American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA). Sarah is an international speaker and published author.  She has received the Dean’s Excellence Award for Teaching Excellence and The Outstanding Faculty Award in Teaching from EWU. She has a contagious enthusiasm for teaching and loves the “light bulb moments” with her students and seeing them grow and succeed as the next generation of oral healthcare providers.
