Where Programs Struggle

Most clinical faculty enter education as excellent clinicians—but without formal preparation in how to teach.

The result across many programs:

  • Inconsistent grading and calibration
  • Variable feedback from instructor to instructor
  • Uncertainty in handling student and patient situations
  • Misalignment with program expectations and CODA standards
  • Increased stress for both faculty and students

Even strong programs feel this

What Becomes Possible

When clinical teaching is aligned and intentional:

  • Feedback is clear, consistent, and drives improvement
  • Faculty approach grading with confidence
  • Challenging situations are handled professionally and efficiently
  • Students experience a more supportive and predictable learning environment

And individuals interested in teaching can enter academia already prepared—not figuring it out as they go.

What ONBOARD Delivers

ONBOARD provides a structured, shared foundation for clinical teaching—so faculty are aligned, confident, and consistent.

After completing ONBOARD, participants will:

  • Deliver clear, consistent feedback using proven strategies that are designed to be understood, well-received, and effective in real clinical settings
  • Approach grading and evaluation with greater calibration and confidence
  • Navigate real clinical challenges with professionalism and clarity
  • Communicate more effectively with students at all levels
  • Understand how their role aligns with program expectations and accreditation standards
  • Contribute to a more cohesive, supportive clinical culture

While ONBOARD was designed with dental hygiene clinical education in mind, many sessions and teaching principles will also be highly valuable for dental assisting clinical faculty

For Program Directors & Clinic Coordinators

When your faculty are aligned, everything improves:

  • More consistent student experiences across instructors
  • Stronger calibration and reduced grading conflict
  • Increased student confidence and performance
  • Fewer escalated issues and misunderstandings
  • A more efficient clinical environment
  • Greater confidence in your program’s training model

ONBOARD provides a ready-to-implement foundation for onboarding and developing clinical faculty—without requiring programs to build it from scratch.

For Individuals Considering Teaching

If you’ve considered stepping into education, ONBOARD provides a strong starting point.

Instead of learning everything on the job, you’ll enter with:

  • A clear understanding of clinical teaching expectations
  • Practical strategies for feedback and student interaction
  • Confidence in navigating real clinical scenarios
